St. Mary's Academy student Danielle Krzyszczyk has been invited to try out for Canada's National Women's Under-18 team. The selection camp will take place Aug. 8-10 at the Canadian International Hockey Academy in Rockland, Ont.
Krzyszczyk, 16, is the only Manitoban among 39 other athletes competing for 22 spots on the roster to play a three-game series against the American under-18 select team at the end of August. Following that, Hockey Canada scouts will evaluate the players with their provincial and club teams in preparation for selecting the final roster for the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey Under-18 Women's World Championship next April.
"I've been training really hard all summer, five days a week at the gym and two days a week on-ice, with hope that I will participate in the camp," Krzyszczyk said. "Ever since I was a little girl I've dreamed of wearing a Team Canada jersey. I'm incredibly honoured to be chosen for this selection camp."
Krzyszczyk, a forward, has played with the SMA Flames team since its inception in 2011.
