NOTABLE

Alexander Semin of the Carolina Hurricans has signed with Sokol, a lower-level squad in Russia that plays in his hometown of Krasnoyarsk. Semin indicated in an interview with SovSport that he will play for free because he wanted to give back to the club and city where his career started.

ON THE MOVE

NHL player movement, some rumoured, some confirmed:

-- Victor Hedman, Tampa, Ak-Bars Kazan (KHL)

-- Pekka Rinne, Nashville, Dinamo Minsk (KHL)

-- Erik Karlsson, Ottawa, Jokerit (Finnish Elite League)

-- Mikhail Grabovski, Toronto, CSKA Moscow (KHL)

-- Brooks Laich, Washington unrestricted free agent, Kloten (Swiss League)

DOLLARS AND

NO CENTS

MLive Detroit reached out to economist David Littman, who has studied the economic impact of sports teams on cities to guess how much money the city would lose if the Red Wings do not play a game in 2012-13 if the season was wiped out entirely. Littman's guess: $84.4 million.

LA TOURNEE

DES JOUEURS

The Players' Tour, featuring a number of Quebec-born NHLers, begins Thursday in Chateauguay, a suburb of Montreal.

The tour is the idea of Max Talbot and Bruno Gervais of the Philadelphia Flyers and will see all proceeds going to charity.

"We want to bring back that Montreal-Quebec city rivalry, so we'll have a couple guys be the core of each team so this rivalry can be something people really rally around," Gervais told Scott Burnside of ESPN.com. "People want to play in this because it helps you stay sharp and keeps you ready to go."
