The Goose has place in cocktail lore

VANCOUVER -- Raise a glass to The Goose.

Grey Goose Vodka has created a signature cocktail -- The Gold Medal Goose -- in honour of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, whose trademark lift nicknamed The Goose helped propel them to Canada's first ever Olympic ice dance gold medal.

The drink combines Grey Goose La Poire with champagne, and a garnish of ginger slices suspended over the rim -- "a nod to Virtue and Moir's stunning display of poise, strength and balance," according to a Grey Goose release.

Virtue, 20, and Moir, 22, became the youngest ice dance gold medallists and their Goose lift will be one of the most enduring images of the Vancouver Olympics. In the lift, Moir crouches in a spread-eagle and Virtue balances on one knee on his back, arms outstretched before spilling into Moir's arms.

A spokesman for Skate Canada said she was unaware of the skating-inspired cocktail.
