- Drafted by the Hawks in the second round (54th) overall in 2002 after starring at Michigan State.
- Played first NHL game in October of 2005 after two years in the AHL.
- Has seen his point totals improve in each of his NHL seasons and is currently second among NHL defenceman with 50 points (Washington’s Mike Green leads).
- Represented Canada at the 2008 World Championships.
- Signed a new deal with the Hawks on the same day as Toews, his contract paying him $72 million over 13 years — the richest in team history.

- Born in Winnipeg, moved to Fort Frances, Ont. at age two when his father, a bank manager was transferred, then to Penticton at age 14.
- Grew up a Bruins’ fan and lists Ray Bourque, Cam Neely and Wayne Gretzky as his favourite players.
