-- The Winnipeg Soccer Complex was a hive of activity Saturday as the Manitoba Soccer Association declared its provincial champions.

Fittingly, the day's final game between the Lucania SC and the Sons of Italy was indeed the grand finale, as Lucania required overtime to win the men's senior championship by a score of 4-3.

Ivan Garcia, Chris Musto, Kenny Sacramento and Johnny Hernandez scored for Lucania.

The provincial senior women's champions are the WSA North Stars. Alaina Foderaro's lone marker gave them a 1-0 win over Team United.

A pair of shutouts decided the under-14 provincial titles. In the girls' game, Jessie Harland and Allie Moar scored to give North West a 2-0 win over Bonivital. Caelan Budhoo scored for Bonivital boys in a 1-0 win over Portage Trail.

Bonivital won the under-16 girls title by beating Winnipeg South End United 2-0 on goals by Delaney Ratcliffe and Celecia Luckwell. In the boys' game, FCNW got goals from Marco Bustos, Dylan Carreiro and Brendan Rattai to beat Phoenix SC 3-0.

Phoenix split its under-18 games, winning the boys' game 2-0 over WSEU, but losing 1-0 to FCNW in the girls match. Tyler Hart and Diego Amaya scored for Phoenix and Meghan Johnston scored for FCNW.

AC Italia won 8-7 in kicks to take the Masters title after they had battled Grand Mill Rovers to a 0-0 tie in regulation time.

All the provincial champions will represent Manitoba at the national club championships in the following cities from Oct. 6-11: Under-14, Moncton; Under-16, Vaughan, Ont.; Under-18, Mount Pearl, Nfld.; Senior men and women, Charlottetown; Western masters, Victoria.

-- Tony Larson of Minnesota defeated Winnipeg's Kevin Kylar 6-1, 7-6 (9) to capture the men's title at the Manitoba Open Tennis Championships Aug. 27 at the Kildonan Tennis Club.

The men's doubles title went to Larson and Eric Yee of Saskatoon. They defeated Geoff Kirbyson and Muzeen Ismath of Winnipeg, 6-4, 6-3. Evann Waschuk and Ismath beat Clarissa Chen and Kirbyson, 6-2, 7-6 (2) for the mixed title.

Waschuk also won the women's singles, beating Thunder Bay's Shaylin Prout 6-3, 6-1, and the women's doubles, where she teamed up with her 14-year-old sister Kylie to defeat Emily and Erika Fridrik, 6-2, 6-4.

-- Winnipeggers Desiree Scott and Caley Miskimmin have been named to Team Canada's roster for its upcoming soccer camp in Rome. The camp runs Aug. 25-Sept. 12 and precedes a women's friendly in Dresden, Germany. The team will also face Italian league clubs Roma and Lazio Sept. 1 and 8.
