The Minnesota Crunch edged the Manitoba Blizzard 4-3 in a shootout in the championship final of the Manitoba Women's Junior Hockey League Sunday at the MTS Iceplex.
Scoring for the Blizzard were Samantha Hink (goal and an assist); Jen Pearson and Courtney Plouffe.
Minnesota's scorers were Carly Kuhbander, Kersten Calder and Kira Kuntz with Rachel Hennesey recording the shootout goal to win the game.
The MWJHL's biggest event of the season, the tournament included 12 teams from Manitoba, Alberta, Ontario and Minnesota.
Christian Cheater and James MacLean each scored a pair of goals in a 5-3 win last Sunday by the Winnipeg Alliance soccer team (3-9) over Calgary United FC (8-2).
Josh Hofmeister also scored for Winnipeg, which will travel to Calgary for a doubleheader against the United on Feb. 13.
The team will complete its season on March 6 with a doubleheader against Detroit Waza of the PASL at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the MTS Centre.
The Bushido Water Polo Club is hosting the annual Bushido Invitational Water Polo Tournament Friday through Sunday at the Pan Am Pool.
Competition includes teams from Winnipeg and Saskatchewan teams from Estevan, Weyburn and Regina. Division are 12-and-under co-ed, 14-and-under, 16-and-under and 18-and under boys and girls.
Games go 9:15 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, 8:15 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday and 8:15 p.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday.
The 32nd annual Ron Stamm Memorial Midget All-star game will be played on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Maples Multiplex. Dedicated to the former longtime hockey volunteer, the tournament features top players from the boys' midget A level. Admission is $5.
The 36th annual Winnipeg Invitational Tournament (WIT) has tipped off at Tec Voc High School including 10 teams from Winnipeg, B.C. and Ontario. The defending champion is Grant Park Pirates while the top-ranked teams include Kelvin Clippers (4) and St. Paul's Crusaders (5). Semifinals are Friday at 6:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. with the final set for Saturday at 4 p.m.
