Centre stage

Saturday at the MTS Centre the roar of snow machines takes over from the Moose at Toyota's FSX Fire & Ice World.

Snowmobiles will compete (on carpets and ramps) for the world championships of extreme freestyle snowcross. Athletes from the ESPN Winter X Games such as Heath Frisby, Sam Rogers, and Issac Sherbine, among others, will thrill fans by flying their snowmobiles at 45 feet, over 60-foot gaps, and performing aerial stunts. Action begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Winnipeg tennis community is set to Raise a Racquet for Kids Dec. 2 with a professional display and fund raising dinner at the Winnipeg Winter Club.

Presented by Kids Dental, the event features three of Canada's top male tennis athletes -- Frank Dancevic, Peter Polansky and Philip Bester. Dancevic is Canada's top-ranked player on the ATP Tour this year. Polansky is ranked No. 2 in Canada, Bester No. 5.

Tickets are $80 from Tennis Manitoba, 925-5660. Exhibition only tickets are $10 each, or $25 for a family.

Marilyn McMullan captured first place on the weekend as the Manitoba Master Bowlers Association held its first eight-game senior tournament of the season at Selkirk. McMullan capture rolled an impressive 216 above average,.

Barb Szpak won the teaching division's second tournament of the season, at Polo Park with an eight-game score of 237 above average. Cliff Langan won the men's side with 197 above. Scott Saunderson had 194 above.
