Men's flag football team returns home victorious

  • Print

It was a good week for the Team Manitoba U16 male and female teams at the 2014 Flag Football National Championships in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

The young men from Manitoba, coached by Mike McCheyne, won all eight games they played in the tournament, defeating Saskatchewan 40-27 in the final, while the women lost a close 29-28 decision against Quebec in the final.

The Manitoba's women’s team, coached by Chris Helgason, went undefeated in round-robin play, beating Quebec 31-26 on Friday before losing in the final. The men’s team had to square off against our neighbours to the West, twice before beating them again in the final.

The under-18 women's team lost 14-6 in its bronze-medal-game against Nova Scotia.

The tournament included five provincial teams from P.E.I., Nova Scotia, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
