Beauden Barrett handed 1st start in All Blacks team to play Argentina

  • Print

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Beauden Barrett will start at flyhalf for the first time in his 23-test career when New Zealand plays Argentina in a Rugby Championships match at Napier on Saturday.

Barrett has made his previous test appearances from the bench but has been promoted into the starting side in place of Aaron Cruden who has a chest injury. Dan Carter remains unavailable while recovering from a leg fracture.

Ma'a Nonu has recovered from a shoulder injury to play next to Barrett at inside centre, combining in midfield with Conrad Smith for the 53rd time. Israel Dagg returns at fullback and Ben Smith moves from that position to the right wing in place of Cory Jane who drops out of the match 23.

The forward pack is unchanged from the one that started in New Zealand's 51-20 win over Australia in Auckland two weeks ago.
