HOW'S this for a Super Sunday.

In one day of competition at various world championships, World Cup, Dew Tour and Four Continents events, Canadian athletes hit the podium 12 times on Sunday. There were three golds, seven silvers and two bronzes.

From Thursday-through-Sunday, Canadians reached the podium 20 times, winning seven events, finishing second in nine and third in four.

The weekend's final podium came Sunday night when 2010 Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won the free dance and overtook reigning world champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the U.S. to win the ice dance title at Four Continents in Colorado Springs, Colo.

-- At the FIL world luge championships in Altenberg, Germany, Sunday, Canada won a bronze medal in the team relay, a new event for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. It was an all-Calgary affair with Alex Gough competing in the women's leg, Sam Edney taking the men's and Tristan Walker and Justin Snith handling the doubles.

"We feed off the energy of one another and have a lot of fun in this event," Edney, 27 and just off a worlds career best seventh place finish in Saturday's men's race, said in a release.

"You can tell at the start that we feel the team atmosphere through the whole race and that is something we all benefit from."

Germany won the event with a time of two minutes 22.003 seconds. Russia got silver in 2:22.092. Canada finished with a time of 2:22.404.

Gough placed fourth in the women's race Saturday. Canada has won several medals in this event on the World Cup circuit but had never gained the podium at a world championship.

-- Confidence was oozing at a freestyle skiing World Cup event in Beida Lake, China on Sunday. Mikael Kingsbury gained his seventh World Cup win of the 2011-12 season scoring 26.53 points to edge teammate Philippe Marquis and Dimitriy Reiherd of Kazakhstan, who tied for second with 25.34 points.

Kingsbury, 19 of Deux Montagnes, Que., had a six-event World Cup win streak broken last week in Deer Valley, Utah, when he settled for silver in a dual moguls event.

Marquis, who had a bronze last month at Lake Placid, had a hard time containing his enthusiasm after the career best result.

"The Canadians guys kicked some butt in China today," he said. "I am working harder on my training, trying not to be lazy and trying to have great runs, run after run. I think it's starting to work."

It's working for Montreal's Dufour-Lapointe family.

Justine Dufour-Lapointe earned her sixth silver medal of the season, finishing second to American Hannah Kearney.

-- X-Games and reigning world champion Rosalind Groenewoud of Calgary took a silver medal in freestyle skiing halfpipe at the final 2011-12 Dew Tour stop Sunday at Ogden, Utah. Kaya Turski of Montreal won gold in the women's ski slopestyle event.

-- Canada's short track speed skating team struck it big at the final World Cup of the event of the season, winning five medals Sunday at Dordrecht, Netherlands.

Marianne St. Gelais of St. Felicien, Que., added to Saturday's gold in the 1,000 metres, with a silver in the 500 metres, one of four silvers Canada got Sunday.

Marie-Eve Drolet of Laterriere, Que., got a silver in the women's 1,000 metres and Olivier Jean of Lachenaie, Que., added another silver in the men's 1,000 metres.

Jean then teamed with Francois-Louis Tremblay and Guillaume Boilieu, both of Alma, Que., and Liam McFarlane of Medicine Hat, Alta., to get silver in the men's relay.

Tremblay added a bronze in the 500 metres.
