Ex-Kodiak Posthumus signs pro deal in Japan

  • Print

After going undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft and later playing with the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Las Vegas Summer League, Winnipegger Chad Posthumus has signed a one-year deal with Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo of the National Basketball League of Japan.

The 6-11 centre and former River East Kodiak spent the past two seasons with Morehead State University. He started his collegiate career with the University of British Columbia and a junior college in Texas before making the jump to the NCAA division 1, where he made incredible strides.

Posthumus, in his final season at Morehead State, played all 33 games and averaged 9.6 points per game.

He averaged 11 rebounds per game, good enough for first in the Ohio Valley Conference and fourth in the NCAA. He was also second in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game with 4.3 and boasted the best rebounding percentage in the United States.

After graduating he was selected as one of the Top 64 seniors in the country, results that earned him invites to pre-draft workouts with the Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls.

"I've been waiting a long time to start my professional career and can't wait to be a part of the Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo Basketball Club in Japan," Posthumus said in a press release. "My two years at Morehead State and this summer with the Chicago Bulls have really helped prepare me for the next level."

Fish player of month

WINNIPEG Goldeyes first baseman Casey Haerther has been named the American Association player of the month for July.

Haerther hit a .425 batting average throughout the month with five home-runs and 24 RBI in 27 games. From July 10-22, he strung together a 12-game hit streak and was the starting first baseman for team North during the all-star game.

On the season, Haerther holds a league-best .399 batting average with nine home-runs and 48 RBI, to go along with a league-leading 108 hits.
