Fourth straight top player award for Carman pro
DEAN North of the Carman Golf Club captured his fourth straight Manitoba player of the year award at the PGA of Manitoba's annual awards reception.
North is the four-time winner of the Titleist-FootJoy PGA of Manitoba Championship, contested this year at Bel Acres. He won by two strokes.
The association also handed out its other annual awards, including: to Steve Wood of Bel Acres as golf professional of the year; to Andrew Steep of Glendale as assistant of the year; to Tyler Kerslake of St. Charles as junior leader of the year; and to Shane Dick of Pine Ridge as both teacher of the year and retailer of the year.
The PGA of Manitoba also recognized Jim Collins, Bud Edwards and James Roy as 50-year members of the PGA of Canada.
Clipper, Husky earn praise
KELVIN Clippers quarterback Kristian D'Ignazio is the Home Run Sports urban high school athlete of the week.
D'Ignazio passed for 134 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a third as Kelvin defeated Crocus Plains last week. He leads the high school football league with nine touchdown passes and has completed 76 per cent of his passes. He has also had four rushing touchdowns this season.
D'Ignazio is also maintaining a 98 per cent average this school year.
Keegan Robinson of the Hamiota Huskies soccer team is the Tri-Star rural high school athlete of the week.
The forward leads her team with 17 goals this season and in the Zone 10 final-game win, she scored four goals.
The Grade 12 student maintains a 90 per cent average.
