Gatti's widow reaches out to fighter's family

MONTREAL -- The widow of former boxing champ Arturo Gatti has set up a business in Montreal and wants to be friends with the dead fighter's family, according to Global Montreal.

Amanda Rodrigues Gatti was arrested in July 2009 on suspicion of murder in Gatti's death. He was found dead in an apartment in Brazil while he was on vacation with his wife and young son.

She was released after an investigation by Brazilian authorities deemed the former junior welterweight champ's death a suicide.

But Rodrigues Gatti was then embroiled in a nasty court battle with her in-laws over Gatti's $3.4-million estate.

She was awarded millions of dollars and moved back to Brazil.

But Rodrigues Gatti returned to Montreal in May 2012 to tie up loose ends and told Global Montreal she plans to stay.

"I've learned how to love Montreal," she said.

She has opened a new fashion boutique on trendy St-Denis Street and says she designed every item in it.

"It makes me feel very happy," Rodrigues Gatti said. "It was made with a lot of energy, it's good energy, a lot of love."
