Injuries place Nonu, Kaino in doubt for Bledisloe Cup rematch

  • Print

AUCKLAND, New Zealand - All Blacks centre Ma'a Nonu and flanker Jerome Kaino will undergo scans on Monday to determine if they will be fit to play for New Zealand in Saturday's second Rugby Championship test against Australia.

Nonu picked up a shoulder injury and Kaino an elbow and arm injury during the weekend's opening 12-12 draw at Sydney.

Coach Steve Hansen said the All Blacks will be "sweating on whether or not (Nonu) will be right next week." Kaino's injury is thought to be less serious and a shoulder injury suffered by captain Richie McCaw is minor and not likely to affect his availability.

Centre Conrad Smith, who missed the Sydney test to be with his wife who is expecting their first child, is likely to return Saturday and could be a replacement if Nonu is unfit.
