John Cartwright quits as coach of Gold Coast Titans coach after NRL disappointment

  • Print

GOLD COAST, Australia - John Cartwright has quit as Gold Coast coach with two years remaining on his contract after another lacklustre season and the Titans likely to miss the National Rugby League playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.

Cartwright, who won a premiership with the Penrith Panthers and also represented Australia as a player, worked at Penrith and Sydney Roosters as a coach before becoming the Titans inaugural coach when the club was launched in 2007.

The Titans announced Tuesday that Cartwright would stand down after Monday's match against Sydney Roosters and Neil Henry would act as caretaker coach until the end of the season. The club is in 13th place in the NRL with eight wins and 11 losses.

Co-owner Michael Searle, the Titans' foundation chairman, also resigned from the club board.
