Kingsbury beats Canada teammate for moguls gold, favourite Kearney up to it at freestyle worlds

VOSS, Norway - Mikael Kingsbury has beaten Canada teammate Alex Bilodeau for the moguls title at the freestyle skiing world championships. Hannah Kearney of the United States upheld her favourite status and took the women's gold medal.

Kingsbury, the World Cup champion and season leader, and Bilodeau, the Vancouver Olympic champ, bettered their first-round results. In the championship-deciding round for the top six, Kingsbury finished on 27.59 points, and Bilodeau on 26.95.

Patrick Deneen of the United States, the 2009 world champ, took third.

Kearney showed her class, topping a good first run worth 26.48 with a second decisive effort of 26.70 for the title. She's the reigning Olympic and World Cup moguls champion and season leader.

Miki Ito of Japan was second with 24.92 points, and Justine Dufour-Lapointe of Canada third on 23.48. Both had better performances in the first round setting up the final six skiers.
