GRAMBLING State University men's baseball team advanced to the NCAA Regionals last Sunday by winning its first Southwestern Athletic Conference title since 1985, in no small part due to the powerful bat of Altona's Steve Kletke. Kletke went three-for-five with two RBI in the Tigers' dominant 15-2 win over the Alcorn State Braves in the SWAC Tournament final and was named All-Tournament first baseman. He finished a strong regular season tied for the conference lead with 10 home runs while maintaining a solid .306 batting average.
The Tigers (22-30 in the regular season) will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to face the No. 1 seed Arkansas Razorbacks (40-18) on Friday, though a victory would have to be considered a major upset over the powerful NCAA Regionals tournament hosts.
