Mission accomplished... thank you!

You've given over $141K to cheer city's needy

  • Print

The final numbers are in, and thanks to all of you, it has been another successful year for the Spirit Of Christmas Fund.

With a couple of big cheques to close out our campaign, our final tally here at the Free Press sports department's annual fundraising effort in support of the Christmas Cheer Board is $141,614.68. That total is a little shy of last year's collection, but given the economic situation in the last 12 months, a fine performance from you all.

A special thanks today to the local bowling community, who pitched in $3,572.53, and to the people who participated in the IBM Corporate Challenge and sent along a cheque for $31,343. Good stuff.

Kai Madsen and his crew of volunteers had their wrap party last week, and the cheer board boss said he was "pleasantly surprised" by the amount of contributions to our fund. He said contributions were down a little across the board, but overall it was a terrfic season for the cheer board, handing out more than 19,000 hampers.

Finally, thanks to all those people who helped me in my first year steering this ship. You made it much easier than I had anticipated.

Along with today's list of donors, we are running a breakdown of contributions from various bowling leagues.
