New Scotland coach Vern Cotter selects separate squads, 6 new caps, for 4-nation summer tour

  • Print

EDINBURGH, Scotland - New Scotland coach Vern Cotter has selected separate squads for the North American and southern hemisphere legs of the team's summer rugby tour in June — but there is no place in either for lock Al Kellock and prop Euan Murray.

The Scots take on the United States in Houston and Canada in Toronto before flying south to play Argentina in Cordoba and South Africa in Port Elizabeth.

Nine players, including 2013 British Lions tourists Sean Maitland and Stuart Hogg, straddle both squads and there are six uncapped players called up. Center Nick De Luca and back-row forward Richie Vernon miss out ahead of likely involvement in the Commonwealth Games sevens tournament.

Glasgow captain Kellock recently returned from arm surgery but was overlooked by Cotter, who has taken over from Scott Johnson following the end of his spell at Clermont-Auvergne in France.
