Next stop for NFL refs, stadiums across U.S.
IRVING, Texas -- NFL officials ended their labour dispute with the league by approving a new eight-year contract with a 112-5 vote Saturday, then hustled off to the airport to get to work.
Next stop, stadiums around the country.
And, the officials hope, anonymity.
"The last Super Bowl that I worked, when we got in the locker room, I said, 'You know, the best thing about this game, nobody will remember who refereed,"' said Scott Green, president of the referees' association.
The vote ended a labour spat that created three weeks of increasingly chaotic games run by replacement officials who drew criticism of everyone from the average fan to President Barack Obama.
Struve bombs to win
NOTTINGHAM, England -- Stefan (Skyscraper) Struve took advantage of a lucky slip to earn a win at UFC on Fuel TV.
Struve capitalized on Stipe Miocic's momentary slip on the canvas and used it to land some big bombs along the fence to get a stoppage in the main event Saturday.
Struve (25-5, 9-3 UFC), a six-foot-11 native of the Netherlands, won for the fourth straight time -- all by stoppage -- and planted himself firmly into the UFC's heavyweight title picture with the victory.
Miocic (9-1, 3-1 UFC) lost for the first time in his professional career.
