NFLer Turner charged with drunk driving, speeding

ATLANTA -- Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner was jailed on charges of drunken driving and speeding early Tuesday, just hours after he scored a touchdown in the team's win over the Denver Broncos.

Turner, 30, of Suwanee, Ga., was booked into the Gwinnett County jail in metro Atlanta just after 5 a.m. Turner spent barely two hours behind bars before he was released on $2,179 bond, jail records showed.

A Gwinnett County police officer pulled over Turner's black Audi R8 on Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta after clocking the car at 97 mph -- 32 mph over the speed limit, said Cpl. Edwin Ritter, a police spokesman.

Cutler 'wrong' to shove

CHICAGO -- Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler acknowledged Tuesday that he was wrong to shove teammate J'Marcus Webb on the sideline during the loss at Green Bay last week.

He has no second thoughts about yelling at him, however.

"I probably shouldn't have bumped him, I'll go with that," Cutler told WMVP-AM in Chicago. "As far as me yelling at him and trying to get him going in the game, I don't regret that. I shouldn't have bumped him, I'll stick to that."

Cutler drew widespread attention for berating and bumping Webb, the starting left tackle, on the sideline and for making some pointed postgame comments after the 23-10 loss to the Packers on Thursday. National analysts such as Terry Bradshaw and Bill Cowher spoke out, and so did Bears defensive back D.J. Moore this week, saying the quarterback was wrong to go after Webb like that.

Snowboard ace apologizes

NASHVILLE -- Olympic snowboard champion Shaun White apologized Tuesday for "unwise choices," saying he got "carried away" after police accused him of pulling a hotel fire alarm that forced guests to evacuate.

White was charged with public intoxication and vandalism and is due in court Oct. 10.

The 26-year-old snowboard star said on his Facebook page he wants to apologize for "any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests. He added that he was "celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I'm truly sorry for my poor behaviour."

Police responded to the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Mitchell has no regrets

SURREY, B.C. -- Khalif Mitchell is expressing no regrets as he gets ready to face Simeon Rottier and the Edmonton Eskimos again.

The two are expected to clash Saturday as Mitchell's Lions (8-3) visit the Eskimos (5-6) in the Alberta capital. The last time the B.C. Lions defensive lineman battled Edmonton, in a July loss at B.C. Place Stadium in July, he twisted Rottier's arm awkwardly after a play in the first half and received a two-game suspension.

"It's football -- it happens," said Mitchell after practice Tuesday. "It was something that happened. I already was given a discipline and served it, so I'm not worried about it no more."

Mitchell was not penalized during the game, but CFL commissioner Mark Cohon decided to hand him the longest suspension for an in-game incident. Rottier was immediately sidelined with an elbow injury but is now back on Edmonton's roster.
