Pistons blue-liner accepts Bemidji State scholarship
STEINBACH Pistons blue-liner Justin Baudry has accepted a scholarship to play hockey with the Bemidji State University Beavers in Minnesota.
"I am very honoured to have committed to the Bemidji State University Beavers. I feel it is a great fit for me personally and as a player. They have a great organization and coaching staff and I look forward to my future at Bemidji," Baudry said.
The scholarship is just the most recent event in what has been a truly successful year for the La Broquerie product. Baudry made the Pistons lineup this past fall and became the only 16-year-old defenceman in the MJHL. In his first season Baudry was named Pistons Rookie of the Year, received the Pistons Academic Excellence Award, and was selected as MJHL Rookie of the Month, a member of the MJHL All-Star rookie team and runner-up for MJHL Rookie of the Year.
Pistons head coach and GM Paul Dyck credits Baudry with a patient game and good vision.
"He is efficient at moving the puck out of our zone, an attribute we are always looking for in a defenceman. Justin has a lot of upside and we look forward to seeing him continue to grow as a player," Dyck said. "Justin has great character and I am sure this made Justin even more appealing to Bemidji."
Baudry will be back in a Pistons uniform this season. He finished his rookie season with three goals and 23 assists in 51 regular season games. He also added two assists in the playoffs and helped the Pistons secure their first Turnbull Cup Championship.
