Lousy weather this spring has forced management at Assiniboia Downs to cancel live racing this Saturday.
Operations director Darren Dunn said Thursday that recent cold weather and the poor training conditions that came with it led to a shortage of entries for Saturday's live racing card.
Live racing will go ahead as scheduled tonight and on Sunday.
Dunn said while the track has a full complement of 800 horses on the backstretch, the poor training conditions this spring have prevented trainers from getting a full complement of workouts into their horses, particularly important for horses that wintered in Canada.
Dunn said it was the first time in memory that the track had to cancel a card due to lack of entries.
