MVP Pischke unleashes for Bison Unleashed

Someone unleashed Taylor Pischke on the weekend.

Pischke was named most valuable player of the tournament as her team, Bison Unleashed, defeated Bison Lightning 2-1 (25-23, 23-25, 15-13) to win the provincial Under-15 girls' volleyball championship in Selkirk.

In the bronze-medal game, Shock defeated Winnipeg Man Blue 2-1 (25-18, 24-26, 15-12).

Jenna Poole and Crystal Mulder of Bison Unleashed, Christina Souza and Ozana Nicolic of Bison Lightning, Sara Hudson of WinMan Blue and Katelyn Costa of Shock were named to the tournament all-star team.

In the boys' U-15 championship at Dakota Collegiate, tournament MVP Shane DeRooy led WinMan Blue to the gold medal (25-20, 21-25, 15-9) over the home court Lancers while Bison Gold beat Selkirk Royals Black (22-25, 26-24, 15-1) for bronze.

All-stars were Toby Milne (Aztecs), Noah Derkson (Bison Gold), Jeff Allen (Selkirk Black), David Stasica (WinMan Blue) and Tanner McFeeters and Jordan LeClerc (Dakota).

MMJHL award winners

BEN Lobb of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League champion Pembina Twisters and Scott Wagner of the River East Royal Knights were among the major winners as the league handed out its awards on Thursday.

Lobb was named most valuable player in the playoffs while Wagner won both the league regular-season MVP award and scoring title.

Other major individual winners included Wade Loewen of the Charleswood Hawks (top goaltender) and Catlin Baydak of the St. Vital Victorias (defenceman of the year).
