Swiss skier Carlo Janka ends season amid health concerns ahead of defending Olympic GS title
BERN, Switzerland - The Swiss ski federation says former World Cup overall champion Carlo Janka has ended his season and will undergo medical tests to search for possible health problems.
Janka finished 15th and 40th in races at Kvitfjell, Norway, at the weekend but won't go to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, for a giant slalom race on Saturday.
The 2010 overall champion says in a statement "it's time to listen to my body's signals."
Janka has a single podium finish this season — third in super-combined at Wengen, Switzerland — and last won at Kranjska Gora exactly two years ago.
That GS victory came days after Janka had treatment for an irregular heartbeat.
Janka, who's 26, is scheduled to defend his Olympic title in GS at the Sochi Winter Games next February.
