Swiss skier Kueng fastest in downhill training session for World Cup, Heel 2nd, Kroell 3rd

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany - Patrick Kueng of Switzerland posted the fastest time in the first training session for a men's World Cup downhill on Thursday.

Kueng timed 1 minute, 11.47 seconds. Werner Heel of Italy was 0.17 seconds behind in second and Klaus Kroell of Austria was third, 0.25 behind the leader.

The original start time was pushed back so Wednesday's snow could be cleared and to allow thick fog to dissipate.

Downhill world champion Aksel Lund Svindal was 21st, 1.09 seconds behind.

Svindal says "they did a great job on the hill, but I had a hard time trusting my skis to have enough grip so my run was not the fastest."
