PRATTVILLE, Ala. -- Ninth-grader Alexis Thompson shot a 3-under 69 on Friday for a share of the lead with top-ranked Lorena Ochoa and three others after the second round of the Navistar LPGA Classic.

The 14-year-old Thompson, from Coral Springs, Fla., is trying to become the second-youngest winner in LPGA Tour history -- and the youngest in a full event.

KOBE, Japan -- Eri Yoshida, the 17-year-old high school student who became Japan's first female professional baseball player and globally renowned as the "Knuckleball Girl," has turned her attention to education after struggling in her first season as a pro.

Yoshida pitched in her final game in the financially troubled Kansai Independent League on Thursday, working one scoreless inning of relief as her Kobe Cruise 9 lost 9-4 to the Kishu Rangers. The 5-foot, 114-pound pitcher created a stir when she signed a contract with Kobe in December, but her career didn't gain much momentum. She was 0-2 in 11 mound appearances with a 4.03 ERA, giving up seven runs in just 10 2/3 innings pitched.

HOUSTON -- Houston Texans rookie tight end Anthony Hill was hospitalized this week with swine flu in the first confirmed case in an NFL player this season.

Hill is the only player on the team believed to have swine flu.

Hill, a fourth-round pick from North Carolina State, spent two nights in the hospital and told KRIV-TV in Houston that he was released from the hospital Friday morning.
