Wales fullback Leigh Halfpenny voted player of tournament in 2013 6 Nations
LONDON - Wales fullback Leigh Halfpenny has been voted the player of the tournament in the 2013 Six Nations after finishing as the top scorer in the team's march to a second straight title.
Halfpenny played every minute of Wales' five games, scoring 74 points — including 12 in the final-day 30-3 win over England that secured the championship — and defending impressively, especially under the high ball.
He earned 40 per cent of a public ballot that attracted more than 80,000 votes, with Italy flanker Alessandro Zanni second with 11 per cent and Scotland fullback Stuart Hogg third with 8 per cent.
Halfpenny, who is likely to be included in the British and Irish Lions squad for the tour to Australia, says "it's the icing on the cake of an exceptional year for Wales."
