Canada's Dominique Maltais finishes second in World Cup snowboard cross

VEYSONNAZ, Switzerland - Canada's Dominique Maltais finished second in women's World Cup snowboard cross on Saturday.

The standings leader from Petite-Riviere-Saint Francois, Que., was edged off the top of the podium by France's Nelly Moenne Loccoz, who picked up her first World Cup victory.

Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic was third.

In the men's race, world champion Alex Pullin of Australia and Mateusz Ligocki of Poland tied for first.

Pullin, who has clinched his World Cup season title, and Ligocki could not be separated by a photo finish. Ligocki's victory was the second of his career, and first since 2008.

Austrian Alessandro Haemmerle placed third, ahead of Robert Fagan of Squamish, B.C., in fourth and Chris Robanske of North Vancouver, B.C., in fifth.
