Sideline chatter
Water hazard? No kidding.
A nine-foot alligator dragged Albert Miller, 75, into an irrigation pond while Miller was retrieving an errant shot at Lake Ashton Golf and Country Club in Lake Wales, Fla. His playing partners came to his rescue, but the gator didn't let go until it had inflicted wounds requiring 35-40 stitches.
"He just filleted me," Miller told the Lakeland Ledger. "You could see into the bone. You'll never get me to look at a gator, touch a gator or eat a gator."
Potential foul trouble
President Barack Obama hosted Kentucky's national basketball champions at the White House last week.
Republican strategists, we assume, are already splicing up the video for a "one-and-done" campaign ad.
NFL headlines
-- At TheOnion.com: "Mohamed Sanu very disappointed to discover second call from Bengals not a prank."
-- At Fark.com: "Redskins officially name RG3 as starting quarterback, ending weeks of non-speculation."
He's in the bag
Pass-rush specialist Bruce Irvin, the Seahawks' No. 1 draft pick, agreed to a four-year, $9.3 million deal with a $5 million signing bonus.
In keeping with the theme, he asked for all his cash in sacks.
Talking the talk
-- Brad Dickson of the Omaha World-Herald, on the woman who interrupted Game 4 of the Lakers-Nuggets series: "She had no business being on the court during an NBA playoff game. Of course, a couple days ago they were saying that about the Knicks."
-- Seattle Times reader Bill Littlejohn, after the judge in the Roger Clemens case told lawyers to pick up the pace: "Good thing Mike Hargrove isn't on trial."
-- Razorbacks recruit Antonio Carter, to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette: "Football is like my momma, I can't do without it."
This speaks volumes
Stephen A. Smith has become a full-time commentator -- opposite Skip Bayless -- on ESPN2's First Take.
Gentlemen, start your mute buttons.
