Desiree Scott headed to play in English league
Winnipeg soccer star and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Desiree Scott is on the move, heading overseas to play in England’s top women’s league.
The spitfire 5’2 midfielder signed on this week with the Notts County Ladies of the English FA Women’s Super League, the highest divison of the women’s game in that country. Last season Scott, 26, played for FC Kansas City of the National Women’s Soccer League, one of 16 Canadian players allocated to the nine U.S. teams of the NWSL. Despite her move overseas, Canada Soccer will not allocate an additional player to the NWSL for the 2014 season.
Scott -- also known as "The Destroyer" -- was a key player on the 2012 Canadian women’s national team that pushed for the first time into the medal rankings, and battled hard in the bronze-medal game. She will be on the field when the Canadian team hosts their rival Americans in a friendly in Winnipeg on May 8 at Investors Group Field.
