Striker Hulk to boost Brazil in friendlies against England, Oman next month
SAO PAULO, Brazil - Brazil coach Dunga selected FC Porto striker Hulk on Tuesday for next month's friendlies against England and Oman.
Other new players called up for the team's final matches of the year include Lyon's Michel Bastos, Liverpool's Fabio Aurelio and Hoffenheim's Carlos Eduardo.
Manchester City forward Robinho returns to the squad after recovering from an ankle injury. Also on the list were Real Madrid playmaker Kaka, Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar and Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano.
Brazil will play England on Nov. 14 in Doha and Oman three days later in Muscat.
Dunga did not select players from clubs participating in the Brazilian league, leaving strikers Adriano and Ronaldo off the squad. Juventus playmaker Diego and AC Milan duo Ronaldinho and Alexandre Pato also were not selected.
Hulk, whose real name is Givanildo Vieira de Souza, has been a key player for Porto since he joined the Portuguese club in 2008. He played briefly for Brazilian club Vitoria before spending three seasons in Japanese football.
"We've been looking at his performance in the Portuguese league and the Champions League, and now there is an opportunity to see him from up close," Dunga said.
The coach said he summoned several new players because "a lot can still happen" until the 2010 World Cup.
"We have to look at players with different characteristics because we can always change the way we play," Dunga said.
Brazil was first in the South American qualifying group for the tournament in South Africa. The Brazilians will be seeking their sixth world title.
