MILAN - AC Milan and Italy forward Mario Balotelli will be sidelined for approximately 10 days with a shoulder injury.

Medical tests on Thursday revealed Balotelli has "damaged his acromioclavicular joint" and is expected to be out for 10 days "if there are no complications."

Milan also says there is the possibility Balotelli could return sooner.

Balotelli went off clutching his shoulder 12 minutes from the end of Milan's 1-0 defeat at home to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

Mattia De Sciglio was also forced off injured following a poor Emiliano Insua tackle in the first half. The Milan defender has a sprained and bruised ankle and will undergo more tests.

Milan visits Sampdoria on Sunday.
