Ajax remains on top in Dutch league after 3-2 win at AZ Alkmaar

AMSTERDAM - Ajax striker Siem de Jong scored twice and led his team to a 3-2 win at AZ Alkmaar that kept the Amsterdam side on top in the Dutch Eredivisie.

It was the first time Ajax has managed to win in Alkmaar since 2009. De Jong scored his first 20 minutes in, and wing-back Daley Blind made it 2-0 two minutes later. Alkmaar kept it close after Markus Hendriksen headed in a goal just after halftime. But De Jong then scored the clicher on a free kick, and a late goal by American Jozy Altidore was as close as Alkmaar got.

The tight race for the championship is set to continue, with PSV winning 2-0 against RKC Waalwijk and Feyenoord beating FC Utrecht 2-1. Both are just two points off the lead.
