Alvaro Negredo's hat trick gives Sevilla 4-1 home win against Celta Vigo in Spanish league
SEVILLE, Spain - Spain striker Alvaro Negredo scored a hat trick to lead Sevilla to a 4-1 win against Celta Vigo in the Spanish league on Monday.
Celta goalkeeper Javier Varas parried Jesus Navas' powerful shot to Negredo, who pounced to open the scoring in the 12th minute.
Negredo's 29th-minute second goal was also from a poor clearance by Varas following a shot by Navas.
Celta pulled one back in the 40th when Augusto Fernandez scored from Iago Aspas' cross for his fourth league goal of the season.
However, Sevilla restored its two-goal advantage through Gary Medel's stinging shot from outside the area in the 66th despite Varas getting both hands on the ball. And Negredo pounced on a third poor clearance in the 68th to complete his hat trick.
"This was my first ever hat trick, and our team dynamic on the field was very good tonight," Negredo said. "It's important to win and we intend to carry on like this."
Sevilla is in 10th place in the standings on 35 points, while Celta is 18th on 23 points after 26 rounds.
Barcelona leads the league on 68 points, 11 more than second-place Atletico Madrid.
