  • Print

BARCELONA, Spain - Barcelona has completed the transfer of Brazilian defender Douglas Pereira from Sao Paulo.

The 24-year-old Pereira has signed a five-year contract with Barcelona after passing a medical exam on Friday.

Barcelona says it paid Sao Paulo 4 million euros ($5.3 million) for Douglas. The transfer fee could rise another 1.5 million euros according to the number of games the right back plays.

The club had announced its intention to sign Douglas earlier this week.

Barcelona has made several signings this off-season as it prepares to serve out a ban on signing new players for the next two transfer windows. Barcelona received the ban for breaching rules regarding the acquisition of youth players.
