Barcelona denies wrongdoing in Neymar deal as prosecutor moves to open criminal proceedings
BARCELONA, Spain - Barcelona firmly denies any wrongdoing by club president Sandro Rosell after a Spanish prosecutor moved to open criminal proceedings connected with last year's transfer of Neymar.
Barcelona club member Jordi Cases brought the suit against Rosell, who is accused of misappropriation of funds in the 57 million euro deal with Brazilian club Santos.
The state prosecutor has asked the judge overseeing the case to open proceedings against Rosell, who was accused of fraud in Brazil last year. Rosell denies any wrongdoing.
Barcelona defended the "impeccable, complex" deal and has cited confidentiality clauses for not revealing details over the 40 million euros allegedly unaccounted for.
