Benfica routs Guimaraes to extend lead in Portugal as Porto draws at Maritimo

LISBON, Portugal - Benfica thrashed 10-man Guimaraes 4-0 to capitalize on FC Porto's 1-1 draw at Maritimo and extend its lead of the Portuguese league to four points.

Oscar Cardozo opened the scoring for Benfica by converting a penalty in the 38th minute after Issam El Adoua fouled Lima in the area.

Right back Kanu left Guimaraes with 10 men when he received his second booking in the 61st, and seconds later defender Ezequiel Garay doubled the visitors' lead from a pass by Nicolas Gaitan.

Eduardo Salvio added a third goal in the 82nd, and Rodrigo Moreno capped the win in stoppage time.

Porto went ahead through James Rodriguez's goal in the 34th, but conceded the equalizer to Maritimo's Suk Hyun-Jun four minutes later.

Both contenders remained undefeated through 23 rounds.
