NEW YORK, N.Y. - Calgary-born FC Dallas forward Tesho Akindele is the Major League Soccer player of the week.

Akindele scored the first hat trick of his career in FC Dallas' 5-0 road win against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.

The rookie gave FC Dallas a 2-0 lead with his first goal of the game in the 43rd minute. Dallas forward Fabian Castillo played the ball into Akindele outside the box, and Akindele's left-footed shot off the far post to beat San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch.

Castillo and Akindele teamed up again in the 58th minute. Castillo made an impressive individual run down the right flank past the San Jose back four. His shot was saved by Busch but the rebound trickled right to Akindele who scored for the 3-0 lead.

Akindele completed his hat trick in the 87th minute when Dallas midfielder Michel sent in a perfectly placed corner kick to the head of forward Blas Perez. Busch made another save but pushed the rebound right to Akindele who blasted the ball into the top right corner.
