Canada soccer star Christine Sinclair named NWSL player of the week
CHICAGO - Canadian star Christine Sinclair has been named the National Women's Soccer League player of the week after her hat trick helped the Portland Thorns to a 6-3 win over the Boston Breakers.
The 31-year old from Burnaby, B.C., recorded the first hat trick in Thorns history in Sunday's game and the second of the NWSL season.
Sinclair now has seven goals on the season, one shy of her total from 2013,
Sinclair scored her first goal against Boston in the 36th minute as she finished a sequence of passes inside the Breakers' penalty box with a quick shot past goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.
Sinclair struck again in the 42nd minute to tie the score at 3-3 after midfielder Allie Long intercepted a pass in the attacking third before playing the ball to forward Alex Morgan, who laid off to Sinclair to score from 14 yards out.
Sinclair capped off her hat trick in the 46th minute, beating Naeher with her left foot from 12 yards out. Morgan got onto the end of a cross from defender Stephanie Catley and drew several defenders before finding Sinclair for the shot.
