Draxler shines as Schalke beats Wolfsburg 4-1 away in Bundesliga, Dortmund beats Hannover 3-1

BERLIN - Julian Draxler led Schalke to its first away win in the Bundesliga since October by scoring twice and setting up another in a 4-1 victory at Wolfsburg on Saturday.

The 19-year-old Draxler broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute and scored his second in the 63rd, 12 minutes after Ivica Olic equalized with a header.

Draxler then crossed for Jefferson Farfan to secure the win on a counterattack in the 79th, and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar added another with four minutes remaining.

"An outstanding performance," said Schalke coach Jens Keller, who appears to have overcome a shaky start since taking over from the dismissed Huub Stevens. "I'm proud of the lads."

Robert Lewandowski scored twice in Borussia Dortmund's 3-1 win at home over Hannover to take his season tally to 16 goals.

Hamburger SV could only draw 1-1 with bottom side Greuther Furth, Werder Bremen lost 1-0 at home to Augsburg, and Nuremberg drew 1-1 with Freiburg.

Bayer Leverkusen came from behind with two goals in the last eight minutes to beat Stuttgart 2-1 in the late game.

It seemed a 12th-minute penalty from Vedad Ibisevic was going to be enough for the visitors, but Wolfgang Stark awarded another for Cristian Molinaro's handball in the 82nd and Stefan Kiessling duly equalized by maintaining his ploy of shooting straight down the middle.

It was the third successful penalty from four attempts for the striker and ensures he joins Lewandowski on a league-leading 16 goals.

Lars Bender scored the deserved winner four minutes later with a header from the rebound after Sven Ulreich saved Kiessling's initial effort.

"When you see the morale of this team it's simply awesome," Kiessling said.

Schalke climbs to sixth following its fourth game unbeaten across all competitions. The Gelsenkirchen club's previous away win was at Dortmund. The Ruhr rivals meet again next weekend, but Schalke will be without midfielder Jermaine Jones after the U.S. international picked up his fifth booking.

"It's very annoying," Jones said.

Marco Hoeger crossed for Draxler to open the scoring by controlling the ball with his first touch and shooting past two defenders and Diego Benaglio with his next.

Draxler then cancelled Olic's headed equalizer by eluding three defenders on the edge of the area before firing inside the right post.

The teenager might have had a hat trick but unselfishly crossed for Farfan instead, before Huntelaar broke his six-game scoring drought.

"I'm happy that I could score today. It was important to create a few goal chances, even if we couldn't use them all," said Huntelaar, who rued two missed chances against Benaglio. "With a bit of luck they'll go in."

Lewandowski was originally suspended against Hannover but cleared on Friday to play after Dortmund appealed the striker's three-game ban for a red card.

Kevin Grosskreutz pulled the ball back for the striker to score with a simple finish in the eighth minute.

Lewandowski scored again with an easier finish in the 21st after Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler could only parry Grosskreutz's shot to his feet.

It was Lewandowski's 21st goal from his last 27 Bundesliga games, in which he also set up another six.

Mohammed Abdellaoue equalized with a header four minutes before the break. Roman Weidenfeller prevented Felipe Santana's own-goal but Abdellaoue was first to the ball as it came back off the crossbar.

Jakub Blaszczykowski crossed for Julian Schieber to complete the scoring in the 72nd, before Dortmund's attention turned to Tuesday's Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk. The last-16 tie is level at 2-2 from the first leg in Ukraine.

"Now we want to advance a round against Donetsk," Grosskreutz said. "We're not afraid of them."

Second-place Dortmund remains 14 points behind Bayern ahead of the league leader's visit to relegation candidate Hoffenheim on Sunday.

Disappointed Hamburg fans began streaming for the exits well before fulltime as their side dropped to seventh.

Fuerth winter signing Nikola Djurdjic scored in the 14th by lifting the ball over Hamburg goalkeeper Rene Adler.

Maximilian Beister equalized with a strong shot to the top left corner seven minutes later.

"The belief to keep going when something's not clicking was missing a bit," Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink said.

Tobias Werner's 29th minute diving header was enough for Augsburg at Bremen.

In Nuremberg, Timmy Simons maintained his successful record from penalties in the Bundesliga in the 33rd with his sixth overall.

Jonathan Schmid deservedly equalized for Freiburg with seven minutes remaining when he was first to Rafael Schaefer's save from Julian Schuster.
