Eddie Johnson scores a goal, sets up another to lead United past Chivas USA 3-1

WASHINGTON - Eddie Johnson opened the scoring with a penalty in the 25th minute as D.C. United earned a 3-1 victory over Chivas USA in Major League Soccer on Sunday.

Johnson headed down a free kick in the 59th minute to set up Perry Kitchen for a volley finish, and Luis Silva added the third United goal in the 70th — his fifth goal in five games.

With the victory, United has 34 points, just one behind Sporting Kansas City for top spot in the Eastern Conference. It also ended a four-game winning streak for Chivas USA.

Erick Torres scored in his sixth consecutive game for Chivas from a penalty in the 84th minute.
