Former Japanese star Ono re-signs with Wanderers for another year

SYDNEY - Attacking midfielder Shinji Ono has re-signed with the Western Sydney Wanderers for another year, saying "we have had a great season and there is much more to do."

The 33-year-old Ono, who agreed to a one-year deal with the first-year club in October, was one of the A-League's high-profile signings this season with former Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero (Sydney FC) and ex-England striker Emile Heskey (Newcastle).

Western Sydney can clinch first place with a win Saturday over Sydney FC.

Wanderers coach Tony Popovic said Friday that "Shinji is an integral part of our team building next year."

Ono played 56 times for Japan in a 10-year international career and made 112 appearances for Feyenoord.
