Former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia takes charge of English second-tier side Brighton

  • Print

BRIGHTON, England - Former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia says the ambition of English second-tier club Brighton was what attracted him to apply for the manager's job.

Hyppia, who played more than 100 internationals for Finland, was introduced as the new coach on Thursday, on a three-year contract.

He says, "My first priority is to get a squad together to have a chance to be successful."

The 40-year-old Hyypia was fired as manager of Bayer Leverkusen in April after winning only three games in 12, but managed the team in the Champions League.
