GENOA, Italy - Genoa defender Nicolas Burdisso will miss the start of the season with a thigh injury.

Burdisso had to be substituted in Saturday's friendly defeat to Bastia after injuring his left leg.

Genoa says on Tuesday that it estimates the 33-year-old will be out of action for four weeks, ruling him out of the opening match of the new season at home to Napoli on August 31.

Burdisso made 15 appearances for Genoa in the second half of last season after signing from Roma in January.
