Getafe pushes Real Zaragoza to brink of drop zone with easy 2-0 win

MADRID - Getafe beat Real Zaragoza 2-0 in a game both teams finished with 10 men on Friday, pushing the struggling side to the brink of the Spanish league's relegation zone.

Striker Adrian Colunga clumsily knocked Pedro Leon's cross over the goalline for Getafe's opener in the 21st minute at its Alfonso Perez Coliseum.

Zaragoza lost a man in the 60th when defender Glenn Loovens was dismissed with his second yellow card for handling. Sergio Escudero scored the resulting free kick when his strike took a deflection off the barrier, catching goalkeeper Pedro Alcolea out of position.

The numbers were evened three minutes later when Leon saw his second booking, also for handling, but Zaragoza never gave signs of rallying.

Alcolea started in place of the injured Roberto Jimenez and with regular backup Leo Franco suspended.

After starting the season well, Zaragoza has slumped to nine weeks without a victory. Getafe, meanwhile, rose into eighth place with a third consecutive win.

Celta Vigo can sink Zaragoza into the drop zone if it wins at Sevilla on Monday.
