Impact focus on marketing, increased ticket sales for third MLS season
MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact have already matched season ticket sales from a year ago and hope to reach at least 9,000 before their Major League Soccer home opener on March 22.
The club said Wednesday it has sold 8,300 season tickets, with an 81 per cent renewal rate from last season. Season ticket prices range from $339 to $1,230.
"The decision to start the process mid-season last year has paid dividends," Impact vice-president Richard Legendre said in a statement. "Now, all sales made from this point on will be growth from 2013.
"We are confident that we will be able to reach a new plateau of 9,000 season tickets for 2014, but we still have the 10,000 number in sight."
The is a marketing focus on the first three home games, which will be played at the domed Olympic Stadium before they move outdoors to Saputo Stadium on April 26. Tickets for all three games start at $56 — 30 per cent less than single game tickets.
"We have a great start to our season at home with Clint Dempsey and the Seattle Sounders FC, then a visit by the reigning regular season champions in the New York Red Bulls and finally the Chicago Fire, former club of our head coach Frank Klopas," said Legendre.
The club also plans an extensive advertising and marketing campaign, and to increase public appearances.
Last season, the Impact drew 349,539 spectators to 17 home games, which ranked fourth in the 19-team league. It included two games at the 55,00-seat Olympic Stadium. Average attendance was 20,561.
The Impact open the season with away games March 8 in Dallas and March 15 in Houston.
