Magee's penalty kick goals lift Chicago over defending MLS champ Kansas City
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Mike Magee converted two penalty kicks in a 10-minute span of the first half and the Chicago Fire beat Sporting Kansas City 2-1 on Sunday.
The Fire forward converted two penalty kicks within 10 minutes against the defending Major League Soccer champs.
The victory was the second straight for the Fire (2-2-6, 12 points), while Sporting (5-4-2, 17 points) lost for the second time in four days.
Magee's opening goal came in the sixth minute after forward Quincy Amarikwa was tripped by Sporting goalkeeper Eric Kronberg inside the penalty box. He delivered a successful shot to the right of Kronberg, who dove the opposite way.
Magee made the second one in nearly the same spot for his fourth goal of the season after midfielder Benji Joya was knocked down inside the box.
Kansas City broke the shutout in the 68th minute on Dom Dwyer's header.
