Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano to be punished by club after altercation with coach

  • Print

MARSEILLE, France - Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano will be punished by the club after an altercation with coach Marcelo Bielsa during training.

A statement on the Marseille website says the club "will call up the player as soon as possible to tell him what his punishment will be."

Amalfitano had been asked not to attend training on Thursday but he showed up, ignoring the "repeated demands of the coaching staff, asking him to respect their decision."

French media reports that Amalfitano then spat at Bielsa, and Marseille confirms the coach was forced to cut training short.

Amalfitano spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion. He was involved in Marseille's preseason matches, but was not included in the squad for the opening match of the French league last week.
