Oldham forward Cristian Montano denies match-fixing after being fired by his club
OLDHAM, England - Oldham forward Cristian Montano has "vehemently" denied any involvement in match-fixing and says he will challenge his club's decision to fire him.
Montano, one of the six players arrested as part of an investigation into fixing in English football, had his contract terminated this week after The Sun on Sunday newspaper reported that he tried to get a yellow card in exchange for a payment in a League One match in October.
The six players, also including Blackburn striker D.J. Campbell, were released on bail pending a hearing in April.
Montano, who was fired on grounds of "gross misconduct," said in a statement issued by his representatives that he will challenge third-tier club Oldham's decision, "which seemed illogical as it appears no proper investigation was carried out."
